The Broccoli Tree in Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Explained
The Broccoli Tree, also known as the Divine Tree, is a powerful plant that grew in Seasoning City after an explosion occurred during the fight between Mob (Shigeo Kageyama) and Toichiro Suzuki in Season 2. However, it isn’t until the end of the showdown that Kageyama realizes he had a pack of broccoli seeds in his shirt pocket while battling Suzuki, resulting in the creation of the massive tree. Because of the tree’s enormous size, it gained a lot of attention from residents, including various cults, who believe it is a symbol of an unknown god. Consequently, these acts of worship fuel the Divine Tree with energy, making it grow more in psychic power. Many seek to take control of the Broccoli Tree, including Dimple and the Rising Sun Spiritual Union. But, to everyone’s surprise, a mysterious entity claims it is the real Psycho Helmet cult leader in Mob Psycho 100 Episode 3, who resembles Mob in appearance. Based on the manga, this storyline will begin the Divine Tree arc, where Mob must fight to bring down the Psycho Helmet and destroy the Broccoli Tree once and for all.
Why Are the Divine Tree’s Roots Spreading?
Although the anime has briefly discussed the concept of the Divine Tree, the manga series does give us some insight as to why the plant’s roots are secretly spreading. In this arc, we learn that Dimple merges with the Broccoli Tree to obtain psychic powers, which was vaguely mentioned in Episode 3. As a result, the Psycho Helmet was born and continues to grow in strength after draining the energy of worshipers or anyone who comes into contact with the tree’s roots. Later down the line, it is revealed that Psycho Helmet can extend the Divine Tree’s roots and uses its abilities in a plot to destroy Seasoning City. That being said, this narrative has yet to appear in the anime, but since the show has mainly followed along with the manga, it is likely to happen in the future.
