The Rings of Power – When Does it Take Place?
The Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age of Middle-Earth. This means that the series is set about 3,000 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, where the Fellowship gets formed and Frodo goes on his journey to destroy Sauron’s ring. That being said, we do still get to see a couple of familiar faces in this series, such as the elves Elrond and Galadriel. Considering that elves have abnormally long lives in the LOTR universe, this isn’t surprising, and it should be very interesting to see how a much younger and less mature Galadriel –she’s still like, a thousand years old here, mind you– handles the conflicts presented to her. In addition to that, the series will also feature new characters like Celebrimbor, and center around the creation of the titular Rings of Power and how they shaped Middle-Earth’s history. There’s plenty to unpack here, and while we won’t see any epic eagle flights from Gandalf or cheesy speeches from Sam, it should be fun to see what this world was like before the Bagginses came around.
